Obituary for Jules Lee Sylvester

Jules Lee Sylvester was born September 4, 1939 in Lake Charles, LA. He was the son of Huebert and Marjorie Sylvester, also of Lake Charles. As a young man, Lee enjoyed playing with his siblings and cousins, going hunting and fishing with his father and brothers, and was on the football team at Lake Charles High School. Lee graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1957.
Lee attended Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, GA, then transferred to Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA. Lee graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
While growing up in Lake Charles, Lee came to know a wonderful woman, Juliette Tuthill. They grew closer in love and faith, and were married August 5, 1961.
Lee and Juliette had four sons: Andre, Andrew (Andy), Allen Christopher (Chris), and Anthony (Tony).
Lee's career took him many places. After some initial stops in Algiers, LA, Houma, LA, Lake Charles LA and Belpre, OH, Lee joined the Sun Oil Company in 1966. During his 25 year career with Sun Oil, Lee and the family lived in Beaumont, TX, Longview, TX (twice), Malvern, PA, Garland, TX, and Tulsa, OK. Lee retired from Sun Oil Company in December 1991, remaining in Tulsa, OK. He continued working on contract jobs with Armellini Engineering and Wilbros Engineering of Tulsa OK until 1996. During his contract jobs, Lee and Juliette travelled to Hawaii and Italy, and Lee traveled to Russia, Pakistan and Abu Dhabi.
Outside of work, Lee and Juliette were active in their church, St. Bernard of Clairvaux Parish in Tulsa, OK. Lee and Juliette participated in the Peace and Justice Committee, and Lee served in prison ministry, providing teaching to inmates working on their GED, as well as the Kairos retreat program where Lee helped to cook meals for the retreatants. Lee enjoyed gardening in his backyard, winemaking, day trading, and gourmet cooking for family and friends.
Lee especially enjoyed interacting with his grandchildren. His funny stories, jokes and thoughtful suggestions on school, careers and other activities always warmed the heart of the grandkids as well as Lee.
Lee enjoyed staying in touch with people, from his former co-workers, to friends from Lake Charles, to his many cousins, brothers and sisters. Lee enjoyed many phone calls, emails and visits with this wide network of friends and family. He especially enjoyed the Nelson family reunions in Lake Charles.
During all of Lee’s life, his faith was a solid foundation that served him in all aspects of his life. He often attended daily Mass, prayed the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet, and continued learning about his faith through videos and other programs. He was familiar with contemplative prayer, and enjoyed this aspect of his faith journey. In addition, Lee and Juliette travelled to Medjugorie, Yugoslavia to learn more about the messages being shared by the Blessed Mother Mary in that town.
Lee is survived by his wife, Juliette Sylvester, his children and their spouses and children: son Andre and wife Ann Sylvester, and their children James and Mary; son Andrew and wife Sally Sylvester and their children Ruth, Martin and Anna; son Anthony and wife Donna Sylvester and their children Joshua and Julia; son Allen Christopher and wife Gloria Sylvester. Lee is also survived by his siblings: sister Valerie Reeves and her husband Jay, sister Charlotte Park and her husband Ed, brother Charles Sylvester and his wife Diane, and brother Marcus Sylvester.
