Obituary for Steve Scribner

Stephen Wade “Steve” Scribner was born on December 2, 1959 to William Elmer “Bill” Scribner and Billie Alice Wade Scribner at the Municipal Hospital in Cushing, Oklahoma. He departed this life unexpectedly on October 19, 2022 at the age of 62 years, 10 months, and 17 days.
Steve attended Drumright Public Schools and graduated in May of 1978. During that time he was active in Band and Football including one year as a Captain and a Student Rotarian. He loved to sing and perform and was a member of Ten Tones all four years and also performed in the high school musicals. He remained active in music and theater and was very involved in the local Boomtown Theater. Steve enjoyed his cars, fishing, and was a certified scuba diver. He earned his certification while spending summers in Hawaii at the family's summer home.
Steve was a very talented and skilled carpenter and craftsman. He established the Scribner Construction Company in 1980 and operated it until his death. He once built a wood coffin for a Native American family who needed it in 48 hours. It was a beautiful cedar coffin with a wood cross down the center. He also made cutting boards, jewelry boxes and he loved working on the home he built in Drumright. One of his many hobbies over the years included raising white tail deer on his property. Of course, this led to some adventures due to unpredictable animal behaviors, such as the time they were trying to trailer the deer to a new location and one of them came charging at him and at the last minute miraculously made a giant leap over Steve’s head! Too bad that wasn’t captured on film. The deer provided many opportunities for his nieces and nephews to come and feed them and fish in his “stocked” ponds.
Steve had an outgoing and goofy disposition. He would never hesitate to act silly or make a funny face just to get a smile or a laugh. He loved kids and acted like one anytime they were around. It was no surprise when his first grandchild was born last year, that he was instantly smitten with little “Hadlee Mae” and announced that he had the cutest grandchild there ever was! He would come over to Will and Ashley’s house every Sunday evening just to play with her. He was so excited to get Hadlee her first car. It was a ’57 Chevy just like the real one he had that he said would one day be hers as well. He got a kick out of customizing the car just for her with custom license plates and horns.
Steve led a very full life in a very small town, always with friends and family nearby. The thing that he was most proud of, was his son, William. Steve had taken the opportunity in recent days to let him know how proud he was and what an awesome young man and great dad he had become.
He is survived by his son Stephen William “Will” Scribner & wife Ashley Anne; granddaughter Hadlee Mae Scribner; sister: Connie Scribner Martin and her husband David; plus nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The scripture tells us that the death of one His saint’s is precious in the sight of the Lord. (Psalms115:16) Steve was not alone when he passed from this world, but rather escorted by the angels and greeted by his friends and family who have passed before him. Therein lies the hope that we will see Steve again.
