He attended school in Mannford until his junior year when his family moved to Olive. While attending school at Olive, he met the love of his life, Jackie Skaggs. After graduating, they were married on October 11, 1957 & to this union, three children were born: Rebecca Lynn, Ricky Lee, and Stephanie Kay. Richard & Jackie joined the Drumright First Free Will Baptist Church shortly after they were married and remained faithful & active till the time of their deaths. Richard was a 50 year member of Pipefitters Local 430 where he worked until his retirement; after which he devoted the rest of his life to full time ranching & being a cowboy. He started breaking horses at the age of 16 and broke his last horse at the age of 72 years. Richard was known for his cowboy skills and people would call from far & wide wanting him to gather their cattle. There wasn’t a cow or bull he couldn’t catch.
