Obituary

A memorial service for Drumright resident, Charles Shipman, was held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2019 in the Memorial Chapel of Michael’s Funeral Home. Pastor Kevin Vogele of the Drumright River of Life Christian Center officiated. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to the care of Michael’s Funeral Home of Drumright.

Charles Leroy Shipman was born in Yale, Oklahoma on January 6, 1953 to the late Farris Shipman & Elouise (Robertson) Shipman. He passed from this life suddenly at his residence on August 25, 2019 at the age of 66 years, 7 months, & 19 days. Charles was raised & educated in Hallett & finished his education at Cleveland. Growing up, he was baptized into the Hallett Baptist Church. Some of his favorite pastimes were coon hunting, fishing, frog hunting, & as the oldest brother, agitating the rest of the family. After he met the love of his life, Dixie Parson, they were united in marriage on June 30, 1970 in Drumright & from this union were born three children: Charles Vance – James Farris - & Charlette Ann. Charles worked at several jobs including the building of Keystone Lake, & planting trees in the state park. He worked construction on the Cimarron Turnpike & later found his true calling; working in the oil fields. He cherished the times he spent working with his father-in-law, Henry Parson. He was well known in the area as the “Best Rig Hand.” After he retired, Charles’ biggest enjoyment was spending time with grandson, Konner. Charles was a kind, quiet, considerate man. His dedication and love for mankind was evident when, without regard for his own life, he entered a burning home & rescued those inside. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a BROTHER: Elvin Shipman.

His remaining family includes his WIFE: Dixie Shipman; CHILDREN: Chuck Shipman – Jamie Shipman & wife Cathy – Charlette McNeal‘; 10 Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren; BROTHERS & SISTERS: Ellen Orcutt & husband Woody – Thelma Campo – Sharon Parson & husband Tommy – Linda Shipman & husband Jerry – Jim Shipman & wife Peggy – Martha Buntin & husband Steve – Michele Coon & husband Troy; & numerous Nieces – Nephews – Cousins – other relatives & friends.
