Obituary for Rev. Roger Carter

Funeral services for Olive resident, Rev. Roger Nelson Carter, were held 2 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2018 at the Mannford Full Gospel Church. Rev. Harrell D. Jones officiated. Interment followed in the Mannford Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Michael’s Funeral Home of Drumright.

Roger Carter was born in Long Beach, California on July 30, 1945 to the late Clarence Nelson Carter & Odie Irene (Clay) Carter. He passed from this life suddenly at his residence on August 27, 2018 at the age of 73 years & 28 days. Roger was raised & educated in California until his family moved to Oklahoma. He married Velma Lynn Buzzard on July 28, 1984 & they made their home in the Mannford / Olive area. They remained together until her passing in 2001. He then met Sharon Lee Hudson & they were united in marriage on November 26, 2004. They remained together until her passing in 2008. Roger was a metal fabrication welder by trade & had retired in 2010 from Flint. He was also an ordained minister & had been affiliated with the Oak Hill Church of Keystone Lake for many years. Most recently, he was attending services at Friendship Community Church in Mannford & Soul Harbor Lighthouse Church in Cushing. Roger enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, & watching old westerns on TV. He loved to sing & play the guitar, especially at church. In addition to his parents & 2 wives, he was preceded in death by a SISTER: Sandra K. Carter.

His remaining family includes his CHILDREN: Layle Carter & wife Gina of Tulsa – Brian Dale Carter & wife NiCole of Mississippi – Courtney Wickliffe of Oklahoma City – Samantha Carter & husband Joshua of Claremore; GRANDCHILDREN: Cody – Emily – Taylor – Tyler – Lucy – Franklin – Riley - & Harley; BROTHER: Kenneth Wayne Carter & wife Carvell of Mannford; & NUMEROUS other relatives, & friends.
