Obituary for Georgia "Pookie" Smith

Graveside funeral rites were held 2 pm Friday, December 8, 2017 in the Oak Hill (44) Cemetery at Bristow, OK for Shamrock resident Georgia Smith. Chaplain Roy Bingham of Grace Hospice officiated. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Michael’s Funeral Home of Drumright.

Georgia Smith, known to many as Pookie, was born in Salem, Illinois on February 2, 1939 to the late Homer Powell Hayes & Hazel Frances (Downing) Hayes. She passed from this life suddenly at her daughter’s residence on December 4, 2017 at the age of 78 years, 10 months, & 2 days. Pookie was raised & educated in Oklahoma City. She met Roy Lester Smith & they were united in marriage in 1957 in Los Vegas, Nevada. They had lived the majority of their life in Creek County & raised 3 children. She loved to cook & had worked in numerous cafés all her life. She had also owned the Shamrock Café and was known throughout the oilfields for her “down home cook ‘in “. She loved to spend time with her family & enjoyed playing bingo, music, & going to the casinos. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Roy Smith, Sr.; 4 BROTHERS: Kenneth – Gabby – Frank - & Buddy; 3 SISTERS: Sherry – Suzie - & Pattie; a GRANDSON: Roy L. Smith III; & a SON-IN-LAW: Pat Hallman.

Her remaining family includes her CHILDREN: Roy L. Smith, Jr. & wife Elizabeth of Bristow – Kathryn Donaldson & husband Billy of Gypsy – Paula Hallman of Bristow; GRANDCHILDREN: Billy Donaldson Jr. – Angela & Steven Davis – Georgia & Michael McGarry – Christie & Geoff Smith – JR & Rachel Bray – Curtis Smith; 17 Great GRANDCHILDREN; SISTERS: June Banning of Bristow – Betty Gilbert of Shawnee; and NUMEROUS Nieces – Nephews – other relatives & friends.
