Obituary for Harold Stanley Hemphill

A rosary prayer service was held 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 2, 2017 and funeral Mass celebrated 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 3rd at St. Mary Catholic Church in Drumright for former Drumright resident, Harold “Hal” Hemphill. Deacon Kenny Longbrake officiated at the rosary and assisted Rev. Emmanuel-Lugard Nduka whom was celebrant at the mass. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Michael’s Funeral Home of Drumright.

Harold Stanley Hemphill, known to many as “Hal”, was born in Hominy, OK on March 25, 1929 to the late Noble Hemphill & Minnie (Rhodes) Hemphill. He passed from this life at his residence in Bristow on September 29, 2017 at the age of 88 years, 6 months, & 4 days. Hal was raised & educated in Sand Springs & was a 1947 graduate of Sand Springs High School. He joined the United States Navy in 1948 & served until his retirement in 1974. While in the Navy, he became a photographer & helped map & photograph the Antarctica. For his efforts, the Advisory Committee on Antarctica Names proclaimed a topographical feature as “Mount Hemphill”. In 1959, he married Margaret Ann (Pluchinsky) McClenny in Washington, D.C. & they have remained together until his death. After his retirement from the Navy in 1974, they moved to this area and Hal started a water well drilling business. He retired from that business & moved to Drumright in 1980. They remained here until moving to Bristow a few months ago. Hal was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, & a former member of the Lyon’s Club. He was preceded in death by his FATHER: Noble Hemphill; MOTHER: Minnie Manderscheid; a SON: Doug McClenny; SISTER: Dorma Lee.

His remaining family includes his loving WIFE: Marge Hemphill of the home; CHILDREN: Dwight McClenny of Tulsa – Dennis & Shawna McClenny of Connecticut – David & Toni McClenny of Connecticut – Don & Darlene McClenny of Utah; GRANDCHILDREN: Levi, Connor, Dennie & Jennifer McClenny – Devan Weber – Megan McClenny – Travis McClenny; GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Devon, Charlotte, Emma, Kaelyn, Bryan, Justin, Brooke, Tyler, Cade, & Linda; & NUMEROUS other relatives & friends.
