Obituary for Alice Marie Cox (Spradlin)

Funeral services for longtime Drumright resident, Alice Marie Cox, were held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017 in the Michael’s Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Drumright. Rev. Ronnie Spradlin of Abundant Rain Church in Coweta, Oklahoma officiated. Interment followed in the Drumright Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral services were entrusted to the care of Michael’s Funeral Home of Drumright.

Alice Marie (Spradlin) Cox was born in Canute, Oklahoma on July 10, 1918 to the late Samuel Trigg Spradlin & May Lee (Music) Spradlin. She passed from this life at her daughter’s home in Mannford on August 30, 2017 at the age of 99 years, 1month, & 20 days. On July 11, 1940 she married her childhood sweetheart, Marvin A. (M.A.) Cox in Cheyenne, OK & they remained together for 63 years until his death in 2003. Soon after marriage, we entered WWII & Alice went to work for the US Government in Long Beach, California. After the war, they returned to Oklahoma; living in Pauls Valley, Wilson, then Drumright in 1947 where they remained. They raised 3 girls: Sandra, Marvina, & Edna Mae. Alice owned & operated the “Petite Beauty Shop” on Broadway from 1964 to 1976. She was a lifelong member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Drumright & enjoyed traveling with her husband & surf fishing. They traveled to 47 states, coast to coast in their motor home. The past several years she had enjoyed living on the family ranch. In addition to her parents & husband, she was preceded in death by an INFANT SON: Anthony Lynn Cox in 1941; DAUGHTER: Edna Mae Haxton in 2001; SISTER: Wanda Richie; & 3 BROTHERS: Theodore, Lee, & Oren Spradlin.

Her remaining family includes 2 DAUGHTERS: Sandra Turner & husband Don of Mannford – Marvina Birdsong & husband Howard of Colorado; 6 GRANDCHILDREN: Adena Bolte – Matthew Haxton – Shawna Nord – Captain Jimmy Paul Payne (US Army) – Preston Birdsong – Julie Norris-Partida; 4 SETP GRANDCHILDREN: Scott Turner – Rob Turner – Angie Bengston – Regina Atkinson; 11 GREAT Grandchildren: Colin Jackson – Logan Payne – Lauren Payne – Leighton Payne – Isabella Reynolds – Hailey Bolte – Payton Bolte – Emma Birdsong – Ethan Birdsong – Drew Norris – Elle Norris; 12 STEP GREAT Grandchildren; and a host of Nieces, Nephews, other family members & loving friends. Alice Cox; mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, will be greatly missed by all of her family. She was loved much by all who knew her.
