Obituary for Vinita Morene Bishop (Curry)

Funeral services for Bristow resident, Vinita Bishop were held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2017 in the Bristow Church of God with Rev. Brent Hinkle officiating. Interment followed in the Welty Cemetery at Welty, OK. Funeral services were entrusted to the care of Michael’s Funeral Home-Bristow. Vinita McBrayer Bishop was born in Welty, Oklahoma on August 30, 1927 to the late George Curry & Lilly (Baker) Curry. She passed from this life suddenly at her residence on August 7, 2017 at the age of 89 years, 11 months, & 8 days. Vinita was raised in Welty & was a 1945 graduate of Gipsy High School. She married Virgil Irvin McBrayer and they had a son: Boyd. Due to her husband being a pipe liner, they lived in numerous places all over the country. In 1962 they moved back to Bristow and ran the Phillips 66 station on Chestnut Street until Virgil’s health declined. Realizing the need to provide care to her family, Vinita attended nursing school in Drumright. She graduated as valedictorian of her class & cared for her husband until his death in 1972. She later married Ernest C. Bishop & they remained together until his death. She continued her career in nursing at the Rainbow Health Care Center until her retirement. In addition to her parents & husbands, she was preceded in death by her SON: Boyd Irvin McBrayer in 2014; also 2 SISTERS: Gladys Skaggs & Lelauh “Short” Hayes; & a BROTHER: Aubrey Curry.

She leaves behind a DAUGHTER-IN-LAW: LaRhonda McBrayer of Wagoner; NEPHEWS: Vernon Curry & wife Julie of Bristow – Dennie Hayes & wife Donna of Texas; NIECE: Shirley Mills & husband Michael of Tulsa; numerous GREAT Nieces & Nephews; & members of the Barnett – Bacon - & Probst families.
