Obituary for Raymond E. Rowell

Funeral services for Olive resident, Raymond E. Rowell, were held Tuesday, July 11, 2017 in the Olive First Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Jackson of the Crossroads Community Church in Yale officiating. Interment followed in the Drumright Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral services were entrusted to the care of Michael’s Funeral Home of Drumright.

Raymond E. Rowell was born in Olive, Oklahoma, on July 19, 1935 to the late Perry Franklin Rowell and Nora Faye (Vickers) Rowell. He passed from this life in Tulsa on July 7, 2017 at the age of 81 years, 11 months, & 18 days.

Raymond was raised & educated in Olive & was a graduate of Olive High School. He attended Connors State College before entering the United States Air Force. After serving in the military, he obtained his bachelor degree from Bethany Nazarene College (Southern Nazarene University) and Master’s Degree in Education from Central State College (University of Central Oklahoma). He was a teacher in Oklahoma at Felt, where he was high school principal, Turpin, and Drumright. He taught English, Spanish, and an occasional math class. He came full circle in 1970 when he returned with his family to Olive, Oklahoma where he taught for a number of years. He was also a counselor at Drumright Central Vo-Tech. In 1980, he became a Social Worker for the Department of Humans Services in Lincoln County. He retired in 1990 to become a full-time husband, father, and grandfather.

Raymond met Nancy Carol Koch while they both were attending Bethany Nazarene College & they married June 4, 1960 in Meeker, OK and had four children. They moved several times following his career, & in 2005 they returned to the farm near his birthplace in Olive where they have remained. He and Nancy spent 12 wonderful years together living in their peaceful, rural paradise, visited frequently by family and friends.

He is survived by his WIFE: Nancy Rowell; CHILDREN: Michael Rowell and wife Kara - Terry Rowell and wife Tina - Kathy Plant and husband Tony - Kristy Young and husband Darin; GRANDCHILDREN: Rayleigh Rowell - Katie Rowell Logan and husband Garrett - Luke Plant - Michael Plant - Vince Young and wife Kailey - Megan Young Manning and husband Jonathan; GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Elsie Young - Emily Young - Jaden Manning - and Kaige Manning; 2 SISTERS: Colleen Revels and Patsy Jackson Spohn; also numerous Nieces, Nephews, other relatives, and friends.
