Obituary for Betty Shideler
Funeral services for Drumright resident, Betty L. Shideler, were held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Drumright First Christian Church with Rev. Jim Forrest officiating. Interment followed in the Drumright Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral services were entrusted to the care of Michael’s Funeral Home of Drumright. Betty L. Shideler was born in Claremore, OK on August 5, 1926 to the late Fred H. Pennington & Lena (Coker) Pennington. She passed from this life in Tulsa on April 19, 2017 at the age of 90 years, 8 months, & 14 days. Betty was raised & educated in Drumright & was a 1944 graduate of Drumright High School. On June 8, 1944 she married Jim Waldo Shideler & they raised 2 children. Betty attended business school in Tulsa & studied accounting & bookkeeping. She had worked as an account & auditor for HUD, the Cherokee Nation & numerous other tribes, & had retired from Jack Castor Accounting Firm out of Dallas. While working for HUD, she was a major influence in bringing public housing & the Penn Oaks complex to Drumright. Along with her husband, her business career included partnerships in The Hobby Shop of Drumright, Jim’s Dozer Service, Independent Trucking, and several race horses. She also had served as Drumright City Clerk & was a longtime member of the Drumright First Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her HUSBAND: Jim; SON: Jimmy L. Shideler; 4 BROTHERS: Charles Russell – Fred Pennington – Wayne Pennington – James Pennington; & SISTER: Doris Hales.
Those left to mourn her passing include her DAUGHTER: Martha Susan Meyer & husband Leo of Drumright; GRANDCHILDREN: Jennifer Branhart – Courtney & Nikki Meyer – Fred & Heather Shideler – Warren & Suzie Shideler; GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Seth Meyer Barnhart – Maysa White – McKinley Meyer – Madi Meyer – Karmyn Meyer – Max Shideler – Gus Shideler – Emma Shideler – Lucas Shideler - & Harper Lee Shideler; DAUGHTER-in-LAW: Linda Shideler of Drumright; & numerous beloved Nieces, Nephews, other relatives, & dear friends.
