Gerald Wright

Funeral services for Drumright resident, Gerald Wright, were held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2017 in the Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jonathan Gilliland officiating. Interment followed in the Drumright Greenlawn Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Michael’s Funeral Home of Drumright. Vernon Gerald Wright was born on October 15, 1939 in Drumright, Oklahoma to the late Vildie and Nancy (Newport) Wright. He passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017 in Tulsa, Oklahoma with his family at his side at the age of 77 years, 3 months, & 25 days. Gerald was raised in Drumright and graduated Oilton High School with the class of 1957. On Sept 29, 1958 he married the love of his life, Thelma Jo Geyer in Oilton and they were blessed with two sons: Wayne and Joe. In the early years, he worked in the oilfields as a roustabout & in 1960 he began working at OG&E in Sapulpa and later transferred to Drumright where he held many position until his retirement in 1994 as District Electrical foreman. While employed at OG&E he attended both Oklahoma State University and Central State University. Gerald also worked on his farm south of Drumright where he raised horses, cattle and various crops. In the mid-1980’s he started Vike Oil Company, with which he was still active with until his death. He loved his community and was a member of the Drumright Round Up Club where he also served as President of the Board of Directors. He coached American Legion baseball and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association as well as the National Rifle Association. He was a faithful member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church and loved spending time studying the Bible. Gerald always had a servant’s heart and was willing to help friends and families in any capacity needed. His greatest joy was spending time with his family hunting, fishing, and traveling. He had visited most of the 50 U.S. states, Canada, Venezuela, Mexico, and Europe. He also enjoyed studying Civil War History and visiting many historical sites in his travels. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a BROTHER: Gary Wright; & BROTHERS-IN-LAW: Jimmy & Jerry Geyer.

He leaves behind his loving wife: Thelma Jo, of the home; SONS: Wayne Wright and wife Kathy of Drumright - Joe Wright and wife Tammie of Drumright; GRANDCHILDREN: Brad Wright, Eric Wright, Megan and husband Mason Perryman, all of Drumright and Chris Hales and Bailey of Norman; GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Stella Hales and soon to be Rhett Perryman; BROTHERS: Ronald and wife Shirley of Drumright - Rod of Oklahoma City; SISTERS-IN-LAW: Helen Geyer of Drumright and Colleen Geyer Deeds of Oilton; NUMEROUS nieces & nephews whom all adored him; & several other relatives & friends.
