Obituary for Lola Viola "Vi" Smith (Dowden)

Lola Viola "Vi"  Smith (Dowden)
Funeral services for Lola Viola “Vi” Smith were held at the Bristow First Church of God on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 10:30 am. Officiating was her great-grandson, Rev. Chris Gordon, assisted by Rev. Brent Hinkle. Serving as casket bearers were Joshua Smith, Andy Smith, Keith Whitmore, Nick Whitmore, Sean Adair, Caleb Signorelli, Drew Spitzer, and Cale White. Honorary bearers were John Smith, Brian Cross, Delton Gordon, Rathe Adair and Tom Webb. Interment followed in Magnolia Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Michael’s Funeral Home of Bristow, OK.

Lola Viola “Vi” Smith was born in Carthage, MO on October 4, 1912 to the late William Henry Dowden and Mary Ann (Adkins) Dowden. She passed from this life in the Rainbow Health Care Center on January 24, 2017 at the age of 104 years, 3 months, & 20 days. On November 29, 1930 Vi was united in marriage to Herod King Smith in Holdenville, OK. After marriage, they moved from Seminole to Bristow and had remained here since. They spent nearly 69 wonderful years together until his passing in 1999. Vi worked at the Bristow Garment Factory as a quality control inspector and retired from there in 1972. She was a long-time member of the First Church of God and was very active in church activities. She was always in the kitchen helping with funeral dinners & the infamous church bean dinner fundraisers. She loved to cook & make pies. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by
1 DAUGHTER: Phyllis Jean Christian (1977); 3 BROTHERS, 2 INFANT BROTHERS and 4 SISTERS.

Those left to mourn her passing include a SON: Bobby Jack Smith;
2 DAUGHTERS: Jane Ann Tallent - Betty Whitmore & husband Forrest;
12 GRANDCHILDREN; 30 GREAT- GRANDCHILDREN; 24 GREAT-GREAT- GRANDCHILDREN; 1 BROTHER: Richard Dowden;
Also, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
